Can I Resume My Normal Skincare Routine after Injectables?

While injectable treatments like BOTOX® and dermal fillers generally require little to no downtime afterwards, there are a few things you can do (or not do) to get the most out of your final results. Follow these tips to properly care for your skin after your BOTOX or filler treatment at the MSpa to see your best results.

Avoid Rubbing or Massaging Your Skin for 24 Hours

For the first 24 hours after getting fillers or neuromodulators like BOTOX, try to avoid touching your face as much as possible, and do not vigorously rub or massage it. For this reason, it is recommended that you avoid applying skincare products or makeup during this time. You can gently wash your face using your regular cleanser, however. While it is unlikely that touching your face will cause unwanted migration of the injectable, we recommend this approach out of an abundance of caution.

Put a Pause on These Ingredients after BOTOX or Fillers

After the first 24-hour period, you are free to resume your normal skincare routine. However, we encourage patients to avoid products that may cause skin irritation, such as retinol and exfoliants like glycolic acid, for the first full week after getting injectables. Again, products containing these substances are unlikely to seriously impact your results, but taking a bit of time to add these ingredients back into your regular routine can help to ensure your skin looks and feels its best.

Don’t Skip Sun Protection

Sun exposure is the leading cause of lines and wrinkles. Injectables can greatly improve the smoothness of your skin, but they do nothing to prevent future skin aging. Be diligent about protecting your skin from the sun to help prevent future signs of aging caused by the sun. We offer several skin serums and creams with powerful UV protection, including our own Brightening Sheer Defense SPF 50 in our custom-blended MariottiMD SkinScience line.

Keep in mind that if you have other treatments along with your injectables, you may be provided with other instructions regarding how to care for your skin in the following days and weeks. Always follow the post-op instructions we provide, and feel free to contact us if you’re ever unsure about proper skincare following treatment.
