Dysport and BOTOX Cosmetic are both used to treat and prevent certain kinds of facial wrinkles. While both treatments contain a similar main active ingredient, their overall formulations are different. As a result, one treatment may be more effective than the other for some people.
Dysport can reduce the appearance of lines in the area in between your eyebrows, on your forehead, around your eyes and other areas of the face. You will be given a series of targeted injections administered during an outpatient office visit. No sedation or local anesthetic is required. The side effects, which most commonly involve bruising near the injection site, are minimal and temporary. BOTOX, Dysport and JEUVEAU treatments require no downtime so you may return to your normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself home or back to the office.

BOTOX/Dysport FAQ
Liquid facelift is a phrase used by some plastic surgeons that describes combining injectable treatments, such as BOTOX and various fillers, to produce the overall facial rejuvenation that’s similar to the benefits of a surgical facelift. MSpa offers a nonsurgical facelift that combines injectables with other nonsurgical treatments. For men and women who would rather forgo facial plastic surgery for whatever reason, the combination of injectables can create a more youthful appearance. Only a surgical facelift, however, can reposition sagging muscle and tissue and provide the kind of long-lasting results many patients want.
All of these injectables work by temporarily immobilizing facial muscles that create “dynamic” wrinkles. These are the wrinkles that emerge because our faces are constantly changing expressions, as opposed to other wrinkles and lines that result from the natural aging process, exposure to the sun and other environmental factors.
Each product uses slightly different formulations of the same active ingredient.
We are seeing more patients in their 20s requesting BOTOX injections to help postpone the onset of wrinkles. The principle at work here is simple: By limiting the movement of the tiny facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles, we delay their arrival. That said, it is not possible to prevent the development of wrinkles entirely.
It is extremely rare for patients to develop a resistance to the effects of BOTOX or Dysport. In fact, more often the opposite is true: Patients who get injections on a regular basis see the results begin to last longer. Over time, the facial muscles targeted by the injections begin to atrophy and as they become weaker, their ability to produce lines and wrinkles diminishes.
The average cost of BOTOX is around $10 to $15 per unit, and several units are typically required per treatment session. A single unit of Dysport typically costs around $5. However, Dysport generally requires more units than BOTOX to treat the same area, so the total cost of each roughly evens out.
The total cost of your BOTOX or Dysport treatment will depend on a number of factors, including the size and location of the treatment area. The best way to get an accurate cost estimate for BOTOX or Dysport is to schedule a consultation with us.
Many providers charge around $10 to $15 per unit for Botox and around $5 per unit for Dysport. Dysport generally requires more units than BOTOX to treat the same area, so the total cost of each roughly evens out. However, in some practices, including ours, the cost is based upon “areas.” This may mean a flat fee to get rid of the “11’s” or the crow’s feet or the forehead wrinkles. This allows us to make sure an area is appropriately treated for the best results, while relieving the patient the need to budget for “units.” In the end, these two methods of cost end up being about the same.
BOTOX, Dysport and JEUVEAU are commonly used to temporarily treat dynamic facial lines, wrinkles and creases in the forehead area, between the brows and at the corners of the eyes. If the eye-area is your main trouble area, these injectables may be the appropriate solution to help you achieve a smoother and more youthful appearance.
If you are also bothered by the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the mid- or lower-face areas, you might consider injectable fillers.
Most people say that these injections are relatively comfortable, as very small needles are used. Additionally, a topical anesthetic can be used prior to treatment to help make you as comfortable as possible during your procedure. Tenderness or discomfort immediately after getting BOTOX, Dysport or JEUVEAU is typically easy to manage with the use of ice packs or over-the-counter pain medication.
BOTOX, Dysport and JEUVEAU do not require any downtime or recovery period, so you should be able to go right back to work or other daily tasks after your appointment. It is best to avoid vigorous exercise for the first day or so after getting treatment, but your regular routine should not be otherwise affected.
Swelling or bruising may be present for around two weeks after treatment, so we recommend scheduling your appointment at least two weeks before an important event.
Results can last about 6 months before gradually fading away. Thankfully, additional treatments can easily be scheduled to keep you looking refreshed.
