Why Obagi Blue Peel?

The Obagi Blue Peel is an in-office procedure designed to significantly improve the appearance of the skin on your face, neck and chest for skin care patients in Walnut Creek. This medical-grade chemical peel can be administered in varying strengths based on your individual needs. Using a low concentration of tricholoracetic acid (TCA) mixed with a special blue base, the Obagi Blue Peel allows monitoring of the appropriate depth to effectively remove the thin surface layers of damaged skin. These dead skin cells are replaced by healthier cells, allowing skin to become smooth and tight, giving you a fresh, younger appearance.

The Procedure

For Walnut Creek, San Ramon and Danville patients, the Obagi chemical peel is an in-office procedure which takes about an hour. There is a mild burning sensation when the peel is first applied, which generally lasts just a few minutes. Unlike alpha-hydroxy peels, glycolic peels, or other superficial procedures, the Blue Peel allows us to control the depth of the peel and the number of coats applied in order to tailor the process to your skin's specific needs.

Several peels may be necessary to give you the desired result. In most cases, one to three Blue Peels can achieve dramatic improvements in many skin problems. The peels can be performed in 6 to 8 week intervals until your desired goals are reached.

Showing Off Your New Look

After the procedure, you may notice a bluish tint for the next 12 to 24 hours. Depending upon the strength and depth of the procedure, there may also be some subtle swelling. It is advised to avoid using cosmetics during the healing process. Your skin will begin to peel within 2 or 3 days and continue to slough dead skin for approximately a week to 10 days. Over the next 4 to 6 weeks, your skin will become visibly firmer, smoother and more youthful looking.

In addition to the Obagi Blue Peel, our practice also offers the Obagi Nu-Derm® system, which can be used before and after your Obagi Blue Peel to maximize your results. Dr. Mariotti may also combine a variety of other surgical and non-surgical procedures to reduce the signs of aging such as a face lift, BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers. Talk to him about the possible combinations that may be best for your needs.
