Age, pregnancy, weight fluctuations and genetics can all contribute to changes in the appearance of your breasts. Ask any mother who has nursed one or more children and she will confess her breasts are not as perky as they once were. Breast lift surgery restores the profile of your breasts to a more youthful silhouette that’s completely natural.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eric Mariotti has helped hundreds of women from Walnut Creek and throughout California achieve their personal appearance goals with the help of breast lift surgery.

Breast Lift Surgery Candidates
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, tightens the breast tissue and reduces sagging skin. Breasts that once appeared low or droopy are given a boost, restoring a more attractive shape and position. In addition, Dr. Mariotti will often reduce the size of the areola for a flattering, proportionate look.
A breast lift does not change the amount of breast tissue, only the shape. If you’d like to increase your cup size or see a fuller upper portion of the breast, you may want to consider a combined breast augmentation and lift. For women who would like breasts that are smaller as well as lifted, breast reduction surgery may be a better option than a lift alone.
What to Expect
A breast lift will typically take 2 hours. If breast implants are desired to further enhance size or firmness, the surgery will probably take 2 and a half or 3 hours and will be performed at Premier Surgery Center in Concord, located conveniently near Danville and San Ramon. Most breast lift patients receive general anesthesia and are discharged from the recovery room after an hour or two of observation.

After Your Breast Lift
You will go home after your surgery in a light dressing to cover your incisions. Although your breasts may feel sore, the pain should be easily managed with oral pain medication. You can enjoy a shower the next morning and should be able to move around the house the next day, resuming light activity in 3 to 5 days. If you have a more active job, you should expect a recovery period of about 2 weeks.
Unlike augmentation alone, lifted breasts – with or without implants – will take 3 to 4 weeks to settle into their eventual shape. When the results are fully visible, the breasts should have a perkier, more youthful profile.

Breast Lift FAQs
Because breast implants are not used during breast lift surgery, your breast size should remain the same. Some women find they even wear a slightly smaller cup size after surgery once the tissue has been tightened and any excess skin removed.
Yes, Dr. Mariotti also offers a breast augmentation with lift surgery that combines the benefits of breast lift surgery with the addition of implants for more comprehensive results.
There are a few different ways that breast lift surgery can be performed, but minimal incision techniques typically mean only minimal correction is possible. Most women feel happy enough with their results that concerns over scarring fade right along with the scars themselves.
Because a breast lift reshapes your natural breast tissue, your results will simply feel like your natural breast. The real difference comes in the shape and position of your breasts, both of which can be improved with breast lift surgery.
The average cost of a breast lift in the US is around $5,000, in addition to other associated expenses, such as anesthesia and operating room facility fees. This figure is based on data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The price of your breast lift will vary based on location, the plastic surgery practice and whether or not you choose to include breast implants as well.
If the cost is a concern for you, don’t hesitate to discuss financing options at the time of your consultation to help make your breast lift as affordable as possible.

Dr. Mariotti will perform a physical examination, discuss your medical history and your specific goals with you at your breast lift consultation. Using this information, he can help you decide if you could be a good candidate for a breast lift.
Breast lifts are performed under general anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during your procedure. Afterward, tenderness, discomfort, bruising and swelling are to be expected. However, these effects should be easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication.
It is normal to experience mild discomfort, bruising, swelling and temporary tingling or numbness as you recover from your breast lift. Most women are able to return to work and other normal daily activities within two weeks after their procedure.
Dr. Mariotti will ask that you limit strenuous physical activity for 3 to 5 weeks after your breast lift procedure. At the six-week mark, you should be able to resume all regular exercises and activities.
You should have a good idea of what your final results will look like around three months after getting a breast lift. However, it can take six months to a year for your final results to completely develop.
It depends on a number of factors, including your age, lifestyle habits, the size of your breasts and whether or not you’ve included breast implants as well. In general, breast lift results can last for years before a revision may be necessary due to the natural aging process.
