Breast Augmentation Revision
Many women consider breast implant revision surgery because they are unhappy with the results of a previous breast enlargement procedure, or may be experiencing a complication. Breast augmentation revision can give you a second chance to meet your original appearance goals.
There are many challenges associated with revision breast surgery, including internal or external scar tissue, thin or stretched skin and distorted anatomy of the breast and chest wall. Dr. Eric Mariotti has the advanced skill and experience necessary to make your breast revision a success. The team at Dr. Mariotti’s Concord plastic surgery practice provides a warm and supportive atmosphere where you can feel comfortable sharing your concerns and feel confident about your new look.

Candidates for Surgery
Given the large number of women who have breast augmentation, it is not surprising that some procedures do not produce the desired results. Several possible problems may arise after breast enlargement surgery that make breast revision surgery a good option:
- Wrinkled or rippled skin
- Capsular contracture
- An implant that has shifted position (for example, too high or too low)
- Implants that are too far apart (wide cleavage)
What to Expect
Depending on your goals for revision breast enhancement, Dr. Mariotti may remove or replace your breast implants. Some women also choose to change their implant size as part of a revision augmentation procedure. Additional procedures, such as a breast lift, may be included during implant revision surgery.
Most women find the experience of revision breast augmentation very similar to their initial breast augmentation procedure.

After Your Breast Implant Revision
Recovery times after revision breast augmentation surgery can vary depending on the individual, but tend to be somewhat shorter and more comfortable compared to your first breast surgery. Dr. Mariotti will share specific post-operative instructions for you to follow as you heal, including guidance on breast implant massage.
Discomfort after revision breast surgery can usually be managed with oral pain medication and you should be back to a normal (light) routine the next day.
Breast Augmentation Revision FAQs
There are several symptoms that could indicate the need for breast implant revision, such as breasts that feel overly firm or painful to the touch. Implant malposition or rippling is another reason to consider revision surgery. However, some women choose revision surgery to go up or down in cup size, or to improve some natural sagging that’s occurred over the years due to age.
Capsular contracture is one of the common reasons why women seek out implant revision surgery. During your revision procedure, Dr. Mariotti can remove the hardened scar tissue along with the old implants and use new implants to restore a soft, full look and feel to your breasts again.
The decision whether to remove or replace your implants is a very individual one. However, Dr. Mariotti can discuss the pros and cons of each option with you to help you make the choice that’s best for you.
Whenever possible, Dr. Mariotti attempts to use your existing breast augmentation scars for revision surgery. For some women, different incision locations may be necessary to achieve the best outcome, but this is something that Dr. Mariotti will discuss with you at length during your consultation.
