Why Liposuction?
Liposuction procedures are safer and more effective than ever with advances in both technology and technique during the past decade. In areas such as Walnut Creek, tumescent liposuction was formerly the only option. Although tumescent liposuction is effective, new procedures such as VASER® LipoSelection® may be a better option for some patients.
Liposuction works best for people who have tried diet and exercise, but cannot get rid of stubborn pockets of fat. Most commonly, the problem areas for women are the thighs, abdomen, hips and buttocks. This is especially true after pregnancy, causing women to lose confidence and feel hindered in their fashion choices. Other areas such as the knees, arms, chin, cheeks, and neck can also be treated. During Surgery
Liposuction is an outpatient procedure and can take as little as thirty minutes or as long as two to three hours. Time is variable depending on the area(s) to be treated. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia administered by our board certified anesthesiologists.
In certain cases, Dr. Mariotti will use LipoSelection by VASER for his patients in East Bay communities such as Danville. Ultrasonic liposuction with VASER LipoSelection is a technique where an ultrasound probe is used to "melt" the fat before it is removed. The LipoSelection procedure can lead to less bruising and swelling than conventional liposuction.
After the surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room to be monitored and cared for while your medication wears off and, when we know you are safe, you will be discharged with someone to drive you home.
Showing off Your New Look
After the procedure, performed conveniently near Walnut Creek and Danville, liposuction patients will be given a compressive Lycra® garment which reduces post-operative swelling. Some minimal discomfort can be expected, but it is easily controlled with oral pain medication. Dr. Mariotti will have you fill your prescription prior to your procedure so there are no logistical concerns after surgery.
Every patient heals differently, but you can expect to be up and around the house in one to two days and ready to resume normal activities in seven to ten days. Realistically, it takes about two weeks for most of the swelling to subside and an additional 6 to 8 weeks for the swelling to disappear completely. All this aside, you will definitely see visible improvement shortly after surgery and, after all swelling has subsided, you will blossom into your new trim self.
