Is a tummy tuck right for me?
Many patients know that they are unhappy with the appearance of their abdomens, but they aren't sure whether a tummy tuck is the right choice. If you have stretched abdominal skin that isn't very elastic, meaning it doesn't "bounce back" into place when pulled, then a tummy tuck might be a good choice, because the procedure surgically removes this skin. It also removes excess fat and tightens the underlying muscles. If your skin is elastic, and your concern has more to do with stubborn fat, then Dr. Mariotti may instead recommend liposuction. He can also combine both. He can evaluate your condition and listen to your goals to recommend which option is best for you.
Am I a candidate for a mini tummy tuck?
A few patients who come in for a tummy tuck may be good candidates for a less invasive procedure known as a mini tummy tuck. The technique involves making an incision just above the pubic mound. Patients with relatively flat stomachs who have a minimal amount of excess abdominal skin or an indented C-section scar are the best candidates for a mini tummy tuck. Because the procedure doesn't involve repositioning the belly button or adjusting tissues above the navel, as are typically done during a traditional tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck is less complex and doesn't require the same recovery time.
What are the scars like?
Scars are an inevitable part of any plastic surgery, but Dr. Mariotti uses techniques to ensure that his incisions are fine and discreet. With a traditional tummy tuck, the incision usually runs from hip to hip low on the abdomen, so that it is hidden by clothing and swimwear. Another incision may also be hidden within the belly button. A mini tummy tuck incision is shorter. As an added benefit, these procedures can also remove some C-section scars and stretch marks. Dr. Mariotti and our team provide detailed aftercare instructions to help your incisions heal quickly and beautifully until they are nearly invisible.
Dr. Mariotti offers much more than beautiful results - he'll ensure that you feel relaxed and cared for. Discover why people from around Walnut Creek trust him for their plastic surgery.
Can a tummy tuck be combined with other procedures?
A tummy tuck is often performed at the same time as other procedures. In fact, the popular Mommy Makeover operation usually includes a tummy tuck, as well as a breast lift with or without implants and liposuction. For patients who have lost a lot of weight, either through lifestyle changes or bariatric surgery, a tummy tuck may be combined with other body contouring procedures. It's less costly when procedures are combined because certain fees are paid only once. Patients also go through just a single recovery. It's important for patients to be in good overall health if they are considering having multiple procedures done during a single operation. Dr. Mariotti can recommend whether it's a good option for you.
What does a tummy tuck cost?
As with most plastic surgery procedures, tummy tuck costs vary. In Walnut Creek and surrounding communities, the cost is lower than in areas such as around Los Angeles. There are certain costs, such as the operating room fee, that are standard for each operation, but other factors vary widely, including the amount of time for any particular patient. This can sometimes also vary from surgeon to surgeon. This is why it is difficult to provide a cost estimate without a consultation. Dr. Mariotti strives to make cosmetic surgery affordable so that it is within reach for all our patients. We offer financing for all cosmetic surgery procedures, including tummy tucks.
How long do the results last?
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens weak abdominal muscles. When performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Mariotti, a tummy tuck produces results that last for years if you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
