Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that can be ideal if you’re having trouble achieving a more chiseled shape, despite maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine. Sometimes, small pockets of subcutaneous, or “pinchable” fat are resistant to exercise and are therefore very difficult or even impossible to get rid of without the help of liposuction.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mariotti has helped hundreds of men in Walnut Creek and the surrounding areas achieve their ideal body shape with the help of liposculpture. His surgical skill, years of experience and excellent customized care make Dr. Mariotti a top plastic surgeon offering a variety of body contouring options.

The Best Candidates
Like other body contouring procedures, liposuction is not a weight loss tool, so the best candidates should already be at or very close to their target weight. If you’re considering plastic surgery after major weight loss, you may want to combine liposuction with abdominoplasty or other body contouring surgery to address both stubborn fat and excess skin.
Otherwise, liposculpture can be an excellent option to consider if you’re looking to take your time in the gym to the next level and finally achieve the toned, sculpted look you’ve been working so hard for.
What to Expect
During your liposuction consultation, Dr. Mariotti will listen to your goals as well as help you determine whether including a tummy tuck or additional procedures could help you achieve those goals.
Dr. Mariotti uses an advanced liposuction technique called VASER® Lipo, which uses fat-targeting ultrasound energy for more efficient and effective results. Your liposculpture procedure will be performed at our surgery center and typically takes just a few hours for the procedure and initial recovery time. You can plan on returning home later the same day.

After Your Procedure
Everyone will recover at a slightly different rate following liposuction, but generally speaking, you should be feeling up to moving around the house within the first day or so after your procedure. Many men are able to resume light activities and go back to an office job within about 7 to 10 days after liposculpture.
Keep in mind that you will experience some swelling, which can last for several weeks after liposuction. Because of this, you may not see your results immediately afterwards. However, over the next days and weeks, you should notice gradual improvements in the way your clothes fit as swelling continues to diminish and your final results reveal themselves.

Liposuction removes stubborn pockets of pinchable fat that aren’t responding to diet and exercise. A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes and tightens loose skin and muscle tissue in your abdominal area. If you are looking to improve both of these common body contouring concerns, a combination liposuction and tummy tuck procedure may yield the best results. Otherwise, Dr. Mariotti will help you choose the procedure to best meet your needs and goals.
No, liposuction isn’t a weight loss tool, so don’t expect to lose a substantial amount of weight following this procedure. What liposculpture can do, however, is help you get rid of bothersome areas like love handles, back rolls and gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts) that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible to trim away through diet and exercise alone.
Although the waist, abdomen and upper thighs are some of the most common areas treated with liposculpture, this procedure can also be used to get rid excess fat in your upper arms and back, as well as treat a double chin.
Yes, Dr. Mariotti can treat several different areas of your body during one liposuction appointment. However, depending on the size and number of areas you’d like to have treated, you may need to split your body contouring treatment into multiple sessions. This is something you can discuss with Dr. Mariotti during your consultation.
The fat that is removed during liposuction is gone for good. That said, you can still gain weight down the road, so sticking to a healthy diet and exercise regimen is one of the best ways to ensure you can enjoy your sleek new physique for years to come.
