Laser Skin Care

Today we're much savvier about the harmful effects of the sun on our skin. Skin experts have educated us on the importance of using sun protection to avoid the ravages of damaging UV rays. However, injury from the sun is cumulative over a lifetime. Add the effects of aging, gravity, and environmental pollution and you're faced with wrinkles, brown spots, discoloration, roughness, and sagginess. For men and women in the Danville / Walnut Creek area, laser skin care performed by Dr. Eric Mariotti can correct these conditions and renew your skin.

Dr. Mariotti is a board-certified plastic surgeon serving the East Bay. If you'd like to make an appointment, simply request a consultation online or call his office at 925-685-4533.

Why Laser Surgery?

More and more people are looking to Walnut Creek plastic surgeons for skin revitalization and resurfacing to regain a fresher, healthier and young-looking complexion. Laser resurfacing (also called laser peeling) is often favored when skin problems are moderate to severe. It can be especially effective in treating wrinkles around the eyes and mouth (crow's feet and lipstick lines). The procedure can be done in conjunction with another cosmetic procedure such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, or a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment near Walnut Creek.

Surgery Details

The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and sedation or under general anesthesia. First, the resurfacing laser will remove all the epidermal damage caused by sun and aging. With extreme precision the laser removes keratoses, premalignant lesions, age spots, and epidermal blemishes.

Second, the upper dermis is sculpted smooth by the laser. Deeper wrinkles and acne scars are reduced or eliminated. New epidermis will grow from cells within the follicles that have never been exposed to the sun's damage. This takes just four to five days.

Third, the laser stimulates the growth of healthy new collagen and elastin fibers within the skin. Loose eyelids and lax skin is tightened. Resilience and elasticity are restored as wrinkles are reduced. This will continue for 6 months after resurfacing. During this time the skin will continue to improve, becoming 15% to 20% firmer.

Showing Off Your New Look

Expect a recovery period of about one week or more after your laser skin care treatment near Walnut Creek, Oakland or Concord. The skin will be quite red and may be swollen. Ice packs and pain medication can minimize any discomfort. Dr. Mariotti will apply a bandage over the treated areas and, for the first 5 to 10 days, will have you apply ointment to cover and protect the healing skin. The skin will soon turn pink, but it may take up to 6 months for the skin's redness to completely fade and up to a year for normal pigmentation to return. We have specialized makeup that can be worn to cover up the redness until it subsides. Dr. Mariotti will instruct you on cleansing your healing skin. You will probably be able to return to work and social activities in a week or two following your procedure. It is extremely important to protect your skin from the sun, so sunscreen must be used.
