Forehead Lift
Indications
Also known as a brow lift, this procedure surgically alters the muscles and tissues that cause furrowing or drooping in the area above the eyes. By raising drooping eyelids and improving the horizontal ‘frown’ lines and deep furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired, a forehead lift results in a smoother forehead and a more youthful appearance. A forehead lift may be performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother look to the entire face. If a patient has significant eyelid overhang, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may be performed at the same time.

Intended Results
A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.

Procedure Description
Three short incisions are placed in the hairline. The operation is done using and endoscope (a narrow hollow instrument with a fiber optic light source and camera, through which the procedure is done with small special instruments.)

The forehead skin is lifted and repositioned. The muscles that cause frown lines are weakened.

Recuperation and Healing
Recovery following a brow-lift procedure also depends entirely on the individual patient and course of treatment. If a brow-lift is part of a full face-lift, recovery will be lengthier than if the brow-lift is performed on its own or in conjunction with an eye-lift (blepharoplasty). Done under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, brow-lifts result in significant swelling and bruising for a few days, and most patients report moderate discomfort. Fortunately, recovery is rapid and most patients can return to work within a week or so.The patient goes home with head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed on the first or second day after surgery. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.

Sutures or staples are removed within 7 - 10 days. Most swelling and bruising is gone in 7-10 days.

How long will the results last?
How long the results of your forehead lift will last depends of many variables including your heredity and lifestyle factors. Even though the aging process continues, patients are usually happy with their appearance for many years following a forehead lift. Some patients find that they want to make additional improvements at a later time.

Other Options
A forehead lift may be performed in conjunction with a facelift to provide a smoother look to the entire face. If a patient has significant eyelid overhang, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may be performed at the same time. Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Face Lift, Laser Resurfacing, or other facial procedures or implants.
